  • Q.What is the difference between the two types of split batten?

The HD (heavy duty) model is a large, robust section designed to carry heavier items and to span larger distances between fixing points. It is also best suited for uneven surfaces.

The LB batten is ideal for lighter items especially where a smooth fixing surface such as gyprock is available.

  • Q. What weight will each one carry?

The HD batten will carry medium to heavier weights like mirrors, large timber panels and heavier artworks.

The LB batten is ideal for light to medium weight items like wall graphics, whiteboards and bedheads.

Please call SignLink on 02 9534 6340 for clarification.

  • Q.In what lengths do you sell them? Can you get custom lengths?

Both HD and LB are available in 600mm, 1200mm, 1600mm 2400mm and 4800mm lengths.

Custom lengths can be cut for you at $1.50 per cut.

  • Q.What does delivery cost?

Lengths under 1800mm with a total weight of 15kgs or less can be sent nationwide for standard courier charges.

Larger lengths and bulk orders will be quoted at time of order

  • Q.What are the heights of the HD and LB batten?

The HD batten has a height of 110mm when locked together.

The LB batten has a height of 70mm when locked together.

  • Q.What is the distance from the wall to the object being secured?

The HD batten sits 8.5mm off the wall.
The LB batten sits 5mm off the wall.

  • Q. How many fixings do you need to hold the batten in place?

There is no one answer to that question as it depends on the nature of the wall or object into which you are fixing the batten.

In a gyprock wall, for example, you would fix into studs at regular intervals

  • Q. What is the minimum gap I need to leave at the top of the object?

HD – Assuming the batten is applied to the top of the item being installed, the gap will be 40 mm from the ceiling. The wall batten is to be installed 75 mm below the ceiling (to the top of the batten). This is the minimum measurement. You will need to allow your own tolerances.

LB – Assuming the batten is applied to the top of the item being installed, the gap will be 30 mm from the ceiling. The wall batten is to be installed 50 mm below the ceiling (to the top of the batten). This is the minimum measurement. You will need to allow your own tolerances.

  • Q. Do you pre-drill the holes?

Normally we do not pre-drill holes as the placement of holes has to be determined by the user in situ.
however, if requested we can pre-drill holes at a cost of $1.50 per hole.

  • Q.What is the batten made of and can I get different colours?

The HD and LB battens are made of extruded aluminium with a mill finish.
They do not come in colours.

  • Q. Can I cut the split batten myself?

The batten can be cut with a hacksaw or a power-saw with an aluminium blade

  • Q. How does the HD batten lock together?

The HD batten has a 5mm diameter hole when interlocked (see brochure).
A grub screw can be inserted to provide security together with the ability to remove it later.
For permanent fixing, a dowel with silicon will lock the batten in place to prevent the hung item being removed.
Note that we do not provide the dowels or screws. These are readily purchased at hardware stores.

  • Q.Do you provide samples?

A small sample can be provided with a brochure on request.
